One of the things that I love most about living in a small town is the sense of unity that have we.  So many times I have seen this community come together for a common goal or cause, and when that happens; it’s magical.

I know I’ve mentioned it several times before, but the White Lake Community Picnic is another prime example of this. For the last few years, HarborLight Credit Union and Carmichael’s Heating and Air Conditioning have teamed up to create a fundraising event that is fun for all ages.  Every year we choose a charity or non-profit organization to donate all of the proceeds to.  This year our organization in the White Lake Robotics team.

White Lake Robotics is made up of over 130 students from Montague, Whitehall and the Home-School cooperative. Their team mission is “to inspire young people to be innovators by motivating them to pursue education and career opportunities in science, math, engineering, and technology; while building self-confidence, knowledge, communication, and life skills.” According to their website, there were a total of 13 teams last year; 2 high school, 3 middle, 3 upper elementary, and 5 lower elementary.

I don’t know much about robotics, but I imagine supplies for building them could get kind of expensive. Luckily, we have a fantastic support system within our community that sees the importance of investing in our youth.

Not only will there be food and games at the White Lake Community Picnic, but there will also be some fantastic raffle prizes that were graciously donated by local businesses. If you want to know what they are, I guess you’ll just have to come down to Goodrich park on Thursday, August 2nd from 6pm-8pm and find out.

Even though the list of prizes is long, we can’t let a good deed go unnoticed, so a huge thanks to all of these businesses:
