We offer several youth-oriented programs, in addition to our Early Bird Savers & Team Varsity Club programs. Youth Financial Workshops Usually held 1 -2x a year, these FREE themed workshops are designed to provide fun while teaching money management and credit responsibility. Workshops that have been held in the past include, Who R U?: the Case of the Missing ID - identity theft, fraud, & scams, Financially Fit—workout for healthy money management, Survivor—a guide to financial survival, CSI: Credit Scene Investigation—cases of credit, Prison Party—don’t be a prisoner to debt, CU NASCAR 500—buying your first auto/vehicle maintenance, What’s in the Cards?—the truth about plastic cards, and Check it Out—managing a checking account. Each workshop includes great giveaways and valuable information.
Student-Run Branches (SRBs) HarborLight Credit Union has partnered with Montague & Whitehall High Schools to offer an SRB on school premises. This program provides hands-on education of finances to students by teaching good money management skills and habits. Both SRBs are open one day per week during school lunchtimes throughout the school year. Classroom Presentations HarborLight Credit Union offers free classroom/community presentations that teach financial literacy to all grade levels. If you are a teacher, troop leader, church youth leader, other type of youth leader, or perhaps a library, we can conduct a financial presentation for you on a variety of financial topics. Please contact Sheryl at the credit union at 231-894-5608 ext 240 for more information. Scholarships Each year the credit union gives $3000 in scholarships to area graduates. $500 each is given to Whitehall and Montague High Schools to award student(s) who are planning to further their education in the area of business. Four $500 scholarships are chosen randomly at our Credit Union annual meeting every spring. Applications can be found online or at the credit union during the months of January and February each year. Youth Advisory Board High school volunteers meet monthly at the credit union to provide a critical “youth” outlook to better serve our younger members. Their service includes promoting and assisting with our youth workshops and National Credit Union Youth Week, marketing, school connections, and community service.
