Fraud Alerts - updated 8/31/10

A member received the following phone call:

"We are calling in reference to your credit card.  This is not a call for any problems with your card.  We would like to lower your interest rate.  Press 1 to continue."

When the member pressed 1,  a person came on the line and asked if the member would like to lower the interest rate on their credit card. The member asked which card the person was referring to and was told that their company works with any financial institution that offers Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.   The member hung up and called the CU to report the call.

This call was a scam.  If the member had not hung up, the person calling would have asked for their credit card number, expiration date, etc.  on the pretense that they need the information to get the rate lowered.  In fact, the person calling would have used the information to commit fraud on the member's credit card account.

Never give any personal/financial information out over the phone!
